Some things really are the
stuff of legends. Bamboo Garden's Icy-Crispy Dragon
Beard Candy is made using a 2000-year old technique
first introduced to the imperial court in ancient
China.
A skilled candy-maker repeatedly stretches and doubles
a small mass of sugar and maltose until over 8000 fine
strands are formed. Finally, the strands are trimmed
and wrapped around finely chopped, lightly roasted
coconut, peanuts and sesame seeds.
The candy, still handmade in the traditional way, has
a delicate crispness and melts on the tongue. It has a
light sweetness that is well suited for high-quality
tea or coffee. Each individual piece has nearly 3000

 When
planning a trip to China - think light and compact!
Today's China is well-stocked with most personal
items you'll need and the prices are very
inexpensive. It's much better to buy things as you
need them rather than throw them away because you
have too much to carry!
Here are some essentials you'll need:
- A sturdy backpack - if you're planning to
visit the Great Wall or the Ming Tombs outside of
Beijing, you'll be doing a lot of walking. You'll
appreciate having a backpack to conveniently carry
bottled water and other essentials.
- Clothing - don't bring too much. China has

- Camera - For most people, going to China is

and send your friends at home photos. A video camera

you'll be visiting.

forget your passport, visa, traveler's checks, and
airline tickets!
