reber chocolates logoFor over 140 years, Reber has been synonymous with exceptional quality chocolates and other treats. By working with the finest natural ingredients available, Reber has been able to utilize their craftsmanship formed over years of confectionary work to create exquisite delicacies loved the world over.

Reber was founded in 1865 by Master Confectioner Peter Reber, the youngest son of Dr. Franz-Xaver Reber. At this time in history, cafes serving chocolates and other confections were extraordinarily popular in Munich, Germany. Members of the upper class enjoyed going to these cafes to see and be seen as the Industrial Revolution decreased their influence on the world at large. Soon, the Reber Cafe became one of the most popular of all the capital’s cafes, a place where members of high society could mingle and discuss times past.

As the years went on, Reber’s confections grew in reputation. By 1908, they had outgrown their current facility due to the increasing demand for their creations. Peter Reber turned the management of the business over to his son, Paul. Paul Reber moved the company to a former monastery in Bad Reichenhall at Herzog-Spital-Strasse 9. This new facility allowed the company to continue its strong growth for years to come. Paul was bestowed several years later with the honor of being designated, “Trade Official,” a rare tribute to a man of his stature.

Over the years, Reber developed several signatures that became instantly recognizable as “Reber”. The first is, of course, the Reber color. A brilliant red, it is the central color in the Reber family coat of arms. The coat of arms was used as the company’s logo until the Mid-20th Century. Such boldness in color was at the time an unusual choice in the chocolate industry, and is still rare today. Thus, you know you’re looking at a box of Reber chocolates almost instantly.

Reber’s signature chocolate is, of course, the “Genuine Reberreber mozart kugeln chocolate marzipan Mozart Kugeln®”. This exquisite chocolate is filled with pistachio marzipan made out of fresh green pistachios, almonds and hazelnut nougat. The chocolate itself is a blend of delectable milk chocolate and plain chocolate. The result is a luxurious treat for the senses of the person lucky enough to receive such a treat.

Today, Reber still operates several of the Reber Cafes that founded the company so many years ago. Located throughout Germany, these cafes remain a great place to experience a hot cup of coffee and a selection of your favorite chocolates. In addition, the cafes now all include a chocolate counter where you can purchase chocolates to take home with you. If you visit the cafe near the company’s headquarters in Bad Reichenhall, you can experience the wonder of Reber confections at the absolute height of freshness, straight off the factory line.

reber sleighReber chocolates are now available in over 40 countries, including most of Europe and North America. Chocolate lovers the world over can thus experience the joy of finding the Reber red box and sampling the chocolates and other confections that have made this company a force to be reckoned with in the world of chocolates.
