One
woman's story of how she bridged the miles between her family
and her mother.
It had been a rough year. Belinda and her family had moved from Kentucky to Washington, not exactly a small move. The kids had a rough time adjusting. They missed their old house, they missed their old friends, and they missed their grandparents most of all.
As May and Mother’s Day approached, Belinda really wondered about what they could get for her mother. After all, from more than half a country away, it was impossible to make a meal or take something over for Mother’s Day as they had always done in the past. It had to be something that could be shipped easily.
But most of the options that ship well just seemed so impersonal. Having flowers sent came across as generic and cold – after all, she couldn’t even pick what the bouquet would include, she could only hope for the best. And Belinda’s mother had expressed her disdain for gift cards so many times that Belinda didn’t even consider them for an instant.
After quite a bit of thought, Belinda realized that her mother had mentioned in passing recently that a friend of hers had introduced her to some gourmet chocolates. Not anything that could be found in a local shop. She had to consider for some time what exactly her mother had said, and she realized that it was some sort of Belgian chocolate that her friend had given her;
Belinda couldn't recall the name.
Belinda searched for chocolate shops online. After all, they are experts in gourmet chocolates and how to ship these delicate treats. Belinda could think of nothing worse than purchasing a Mother’s Day gift for her mother and having it arrive in less-than-pristine condition.
She finally found a site that offered a large variety of gift baskets specifically for Mother’s
Day that included the Marieke
Belgian chocolates that she had been looking for. Plus could get a nice variety of
items. Even better, the variety would hopefully ensure that she would enjoy a bit of everything.
After talking it over with the kids, Belinda placed her order and included a card over which she poured to get just the right message. She waited anxiously for Mother’s Day to arrive; the package was supposed to arrive on the Friday before, giving the postal service an extra day just in case.
When Belinda’s mother called her that Sunday, she was beyond thrilled with her gift. She had already sampled several of the pieces and was in absolute awe! It was a success; she loved talking with each child and telling them just how delicious their particular box was.
Gourmet chocolate has now become a family tradition for Belinda’s family. As the kids have grown over the past few years, they have become more involved with the selection of the particular chocolates for their grandmother. And Belinda’s mother now has a selection of some of the world’s finest treats to look forward to every year.
