Happy
Chinese New Year!

January 29th is Chinese New Year. Here are some fun factoids about this beautiful celebration:

Each Chinese year is designated by an animal. The rotating cycle of twelve animal signs was a folk method for naming the years in traditional China. The animal signs are in an established order and repeat every 12 years. 2006 is the Year of the Dog.

Chinese New Year lands on a different day each year. The celebrations start with the new moon of the new calendar year and ends on the full moon 15 days later.

Probably more food is consumed during the New Year celebrations than at any other time of year. Vast amounts of traditional food is prepared for family and friends.

In Chinese homes, a candy tray is arranged in either a circle or octagon and is called "The Tray of Togetherness". It contains a dazzling array of candy to start the New Year sweetly.
