3/4 package of strawberry wafers (almost 2 cups)
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1/4 cup red sprinkles

Ingredients for Chocolate covering

2 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips
2 tablespoons shortening

Directions

  1. Crush wafers so that there are no big pieces. There should only be crumbs.

  2. In large bowl, mix together rum and corn syrup.

  3. Slowly add in wafers, powdered sugar, and cocoa.

  4. Chill in refrigerator for 1 hour or until firm.

  5. Roll mixture into 1 inch balls and roll into sprinkles.

  6. Press the balls into heart-shaped forms. (The forms are sold in baking sections or you can use extra small cookie cutters.

  7. Place on wax paper to prevent them from sticking and chill until chocolate coating is ready.

Directions for Chocolate Coating

  1. Melt chocolate chips and shortening together over low heat.

  2. Take the hearts out of the refrigerator and gently poke toothpicks through them.

  3. Dip each heart into chocolate mixture.

  4. Using a red edible gel tube, create designs.

  5. Chill in airtight container until ready to serve.

** When you bite into it, you will see the lovely red sprinkles hidden inside.
